When I read the testimonials it sounds like the Breakthrough Experience is the “answer” to people’s problems. Is that true?

A testimonial written after the twenty-seventh Breakthrough Experience (then called
Breakthrough Weekend) responds to this question: “I came to this Weekend looking for an answer. What I found instead was the strength to ask the right questions.”

The purpose of the Breakthrough Experience is to enable people to choose a path to peace and serenity, begin to clear the path of their barriers to peace, to assist them to recognize what they can do to keep the path clear, and challenge them to continue the courageous task of creating peace for themselves and those around them. This is accomplished through love, acceptance, forgiveness, and compassion in a context shared with personal strength and a commitment to the well-being of onesSelf and others.

We, all of us, are the answer. If you are looking for an “answer,” it will show up only as a consequence of who you are.

Who should not participate in the Breakthrough Experience?

People who have had a break with reality, who are psychotic;
People who have severe, complex personality disorders probably will not benefit (there have been a few exceptions); People with severe, complex psychological disorders, such as bipolar disorder, severe depression, and multiple personality disorder (the Breakthrough Experience has worked for persons diagnosed with MPD after their therapy is formerly terminated or in the last stage of therapy) and those who are not "winning" in therapy; People who are currently addicted to drugs and/or alcohol and are still using (many people in recovery have benefited from the Breakthrough Experience); and, People who are seeking magic or something outside of themselves as a cure. People who have experienced prenatal and perinatal severe shock will not benefit as much as other victims of trauma, although it may reveal the possibility of shock and result in referral to an appropriate therapist for treatment.

If I am “winning” in therapy, would the Breakthrough Experience help accelerate my progress?

Yes, that is possible and is often the case. However, you should consult with your therapist and suggest they read the information on this web site. You also can ask them to contact me by email or letter or telephone. Please give them written permission (many therapists use a form) to specifically discuss the possible benefits for you.

Is the Breakthrough Experience available for single individuals, a couple, a family or a private group?

Yes, and the costs are the same as the total cost of an advertised group open to the general public. For an individual, a couple, a family or a private group of up to six people, the fee is $1170.00, plus facilitator expenses. Special private sessions also require at least one assessment session for the individual, the couple, or individual members of the group, at the usual one hour individual/couple rate of $95.00. It is possible to arrange this by telephone, especially through a therapist, although a personal assessment session is preferred. Family members must all be 18 years old and above. The Breakthrough Experience is designed for four or more participants. The experience of the experience of others is often very beneficial. It has worked for one, two or three people but four to six people improve the odds of reaching one's goal.
